Well it looks like it’s been quite a bit since my initial first post hasn’t? I try my very best to post whenever I can (or at least that was the plan anyways), but it looks like my laziness (or rather lack of motivation) has gotten best of me and a kind of cause me to start a little bit (okay, maybe a lot). Anyways today I suddenly remembered I had set up this blog of mine and mustered up the motivation to make my second post (or rather my first useful post).
This one is to me about saving money with using a vacuum sealer. Basically what I’m going to show you is how to save money and worship those buy in bulk and then saving it for later use utilizing the amazing vacuum sealer. That is start off by me tell you a little story.
You see I used to be a firm believer bit that I should just buy what I was going to use within the next few days or one week at that most. Whenever I went grocery shopping I would just buy the exact amounts. I never bothered to look at the overall cost and it was always just a price that I would pay attention to. This was a pretty bad idea not I think about it. The price of the items I was buying was lower, but the cost was much higher.
An example of this would be chicken; chicken thighs and promised to be exact. I’m used to buy a pack of drummies for about maybe six or seven dollars. I would additionally buy a pack of thighs for around the same price. Both of them added it was close to maybe about $15 or so. These would usually last me for at least three or four days. I didn’t want to buy anymore because I didn’t want my need to sit there for so long and an amendment at all; I do want me to go bad before I can use it up.
Now remember that this is all before I discovered the usefulness of the vacuum sealer. Well one day while I was buying groceries as usual, I decided to look around a bit more and pay attention to the costs (as in cost per pound etc.). There was a big, non-fancy bag, that was labeled chicken leg quarters. Basically the leg quarter was the thigh and the drummy still in one piece. One of those bags selling for seven dollars each. I quickly glanced at the weight and it was much the same as a pack of thighs and drummies. So basically one bag of the leg quarters was the same as my pack of thighs and drummies. However, the cost of the bag liquids was almost half of both the chicken thighs and drummies.
A light bulb something went on in my head and I suddenly realized that all this time I had been paying double the amount from my chicken. For the price of one pack of thighs and one pack of drummies, I could’ve purchased two bags of chicken leg quarters. This would’ve gotten the basically four packs of the usual chicken.
The problem though was I would not be able to use up four of these in a week. I didn’t want them to go bad before I could even use them. So I remembered a long time ago someone had mentioned to me about a vacuum sealer and using it to preserve food like meat. Another light bulb went up! What if I purchased a bunch of these leg quarters, separate them myself, and then vacuum seal them and freeze them so that they don’t go bad ? I will be to save on the over all cost for the chicken if I buy a bunch of these bags of leg quarters and just preserve them for later.
So I set out to look for and by a vacuum sealer that fit my needs. I didn’t want to spend too much money on one because saving money to begin with was why I decided to consider this option. On the other hand I do want to buy a piece of crap that would not work very well and would break down on me just months after my purchase. I didn’t know where to begin and exactly what to look for at all to be honest. So I turned to the Internet and started searching for answers. This was when I found some awesome reviews on kitchenreviewed.com, where there were a bunch of reviews on individual vacuum sealers and it was full of information that I desperately needed to know (like what to look for, how much is spend and such).
Then I compared a bunch looked at and compared a bunch of reviews on amazon.com. After about a day of searching and comparing, I finally found one that I really liked. I settled for the Seal-a-meal after reading a bunch of great reviews on it and considering the superlow price. Unfortunately, I was unable to find one of these at my local stores, so I opted to order it from Amazon along with some extra rolls of bags.
About one week later, it arrived at my doorsteps. The next day, I went to the grocery store to buy maybe just two bags or three bags of chicken leg quarters. To my surprise, those bags of licorice were on sale that day. They were even cheaper than you were and I was able to snag them for I believe maybe five dollars a bag. This was a totals steal for me! I bought probably about 10 bags of them.
I took them home, The bag from to use the week and then vacuum sealed the rest. I threw the freezer and they lasted for quite a bit. In fact, I didn’t have to buy chicken for maybe the next month or maybe longer.
This was great. I got to enjoy my chicken at an incredibly low price. I can imagine why I didn’t think of this anytime soon or. I could’ve saved so much more money to use it on other things. I could use the money that I would’ve saved on other things like seafood (my all time favorite that I just can’t afford to enjoy all the time).
So all you need to take from this is, can vacuum sealer, buy meats in bulk when they are on sale, vacuum seal them and then enjoy them later at sale prices. What you like to see some extra money so you can enjoy other stuff that you love to eat too?
